Default The Benefits of Colocation - 01-15-2010 , 12:22 PM

There are many benefits for business which need Internet services that can be gained from quality colocation services that cannot be had any other way. A few of the benefits of using colocation over hosting Internet servers and equipment at a businesses office location are listed below to help explain colocation service and why is has grown so popular. Due to these benefits, most every web site on the entire Internet (over 99.99%) are hosted on servers in a colocation data center. In addition to this, every Internet radio station, Internet TV station, and almost every single Internet related service are all centered in a colocation facility somewhere today. Whether it is your refrigerator connecting to the Internet to reorder groceries, or your fax machine automatically reordering its ink cartridge to be shipped to you, or something as simple as sending and receiving email, all of these services reside in a colocation Internet data center.

1)Colocation Provides Reliable Uptime:There are so many ways that colocation provides redundant services to guarantee truly reliable uptime when you choose a quality colocation facility. Within a "Class A" colocation facility everything is redundant so that if anything goes down the colocation customers server and network equipment will not even notice it as there are redundant systems in place that automatically replace those that went down.
2)Better Network Speed and Reliability:Most colocation facilities run BGP and have redundant Internet networks and different Internet backbones coming into their facility. When a company sets up a network at an office they usually just get the Internet bandwidth capacity that they need such as a single T3, which is 45 Megabits, or an OC3, which is 155 Megabits without the redundancy. Premium Class A Colocation facilities go to a much greater extent to provide a fast and always reliable Internet network, for example Hurricane Electric's colocation facilities network connects to over 500 major national and International Internet backbone networks.
3)Better Power Redundancy:At and office a company will have the primary utility supplied power and may also use a small UPS to backup the servers or computers on their network. Few offices have automatic emergency generators unless it is for a data center, hospital or other important office building. Even with the office buildings that do have an emergency backup generator it is usually the type of backup generator that has the ability to run for 2 or 4 hours and is rated for "backup". In the best "Class A" colocation facilities the generator is a "Prime Source" type of power generator and the UPS system is a whole facility UPS system.

Have a nice day

There are many benefits of colocation hosting. If you have access to a full server rather than a small portion of a shared server, you will gain a measurable amount of speed, performance, and reliability. Plus collocation hosting is perfect if you have custom needs for your web site, including high traffic, bandwidth, multiple domains, or high security needs. You have the control over what goes onto your server without having to maintain the physical security and monitoring of your server. Colocation hosting providers offer physical facilities to protect your server, backup generators, and monitoring that your system remains online.

Robust Power Supply - Using a Colocation Data Center provides a power redundancy on a level that is extremely expensive to replicate in-house. The premium Data Centers provide full surge and lightning protection, double or triple battery backup, and diesel power generation for extended outages. They offer vast expertise and equipment than your construction firm alone could afford on the task of keeping your servers running at all times. If your business chooses to have the server in-house instead of Colocating, you run the risk of losing data and suffering prolonged downtime through summer blackouts, winter ice storms, and other electrical calamities.

Hello
Connectivity

Since you are collocating, there is no sharing of bandwidth, RAM, or any other hardware allowing your server to run at its highest capacity. Some colocation companies offer redundant Internet connections and extremely high bandwidth provisions ensure that your information is readily accessible for your use or your customers use on demand. Because of high bandwidth provisions the response speed of your collocated server will be at a level higher than that of your customers ensuring a quick response.

Reliability

The life of hardware is extended by the climate controlled environment as well as the power conditioning. Server colocation hosting can allow you to access enterprise level backup, and monitoring tools. Colocation hosting can offer reliable power with clean, uninterruptible power, through a combination of multiple power grids, generators, and best-of-breed maintenance practices.

Location Independence

Building a datacenter is expensive and time consuming. You need to have the right amount of knowledge and pay staff to control your datacenter. If you are part of a growing small to medium-sized business, chances are your company may need to move to a larger building or office in the future. With your server collocated, a physical business can move smoothly.

Increased Flexibility

Colocation offers you the flexibility to upgrade and grow your technology requirements as your business grows without having to make additional capital investments. As you budget for changes, they can happen.

As an online business expands, it gradually outgrows the different levels of hosting service provisions. A basic shared service gives way to a dedicated server, as traffic and back-end functionality becomes more complex. At the next stage, most businesses have acquired the necessary staff or know-how to maintain and configure their own server. This allows for greater flexibility in terms of administration and implementation of services, especially when dealing with your own clients.
Advantages

* Increased flexibility
* Better performance because you determine the hardware specs.
* Savings on overall hosting costs.
* Decreased dependence on external customer support services, as most administration and maintenance can be performed through remote administration.
* Redundancy for mission critical operations that minimise single points of failure, ensuring the reliability, availability, and redundancy of your mission-critical hosted operations (see our data centre).
* High scalability and speed to market, bypassing the delays associated with provisioning bandwidth from local loop providers, construction, establishing structural integrity, security, and power.
* Industry-leading Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Hello,
Web hosting is usually the practice of selecting the best links for a website so that it can be accessed using the various search engines. The search engines are used to rank the website according to how often it is viewed via World Wide Web. There are different types of web hosting. In most cases, they are usually grouped into shared or dedicated internet hosting. Under internet hosting, there is co-location hosting. Co-location is whereby different businesses involved in same or similar activities are located in a single facility. That is, placing a variety of different entries in one location. For example, Detroit colocation and Michigan colocation.

Within a "Class A" colocation facility everything is redundant so that if anything goes down the colocation customers server and network equipment will not even notice it as there are redundant systems in place that automatically replace those that went down. This includes; the air conditioning systems, UPS (uninterruptible power systems), power generators, utility power, network routers, redundant Internet backbones with plenty of extra capacity, and redundant onsite network engineering staff. Not every colocation provider and colocation facility includes all of these important services, but those that meet the Class A certification requirements. For a list of these companies and their ratings see the colocation services section. Because a "Class A" colocation facility has all of the services setup as redundant it guarantees the highest possible reliable uptime for your collocated server and network equipment.
Thanks
