Default Setting up a server - 11-17-2005 , 07:24 AM


Hello i have a old computer kicking about and want to start learning how to run a server and host a few of my small sites.But i dont no where to start and what is the min spec of computer i will need.Am not looking for anything fast its just to learn on.What will i need to to run a server and where can i get this stuff.
Please help.I will never host a smal site if any one helps but will run slow.

What server OS do you want to install? What webserver?

i think i would be best with linux as it is a old computer it only has windows 98 on if just now and i also want to do this all for free if i can and as far as i no i mite be wrong linux is free.

Really there are no specific specifications you need. Anything can be run on the web. The SPECS would be related to whatever software you want to use to run the web server. IE for instance CPANEL/WHM requires a min amount of RAM and CPU are do others.

What were you planning to run?
